Biography

Rick Silberberg is a contemporary American artist whose work reflects a lifelong commitment to creativity, exploration, and the evolving language of visual art. For more than five decades, he has continued to develop a distinctive artistic voice through painting, sculpture, and digital media, always guided by curiosity rather than convention.

After earning his Master of Arts from Herbert H. Lehman College, The City University of New York, in 1972, Rick began a professional journey that has taken him through countless exhibitions, creative collaborations, and years of artistic discovery. Throughout his career, his work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, universities, and cultural institutions across the United States, connecting with audiences through its expressive use of color, atmosphere, and imagination.

Rather than approaching a painting with a predetermined outcome, Rick allows each piece to evolve naturally. Layers of color, texture, movement, and intuition gradually reveal relationships that often surprise even the artist himself. His paintings frequently exist somewhere between abstraction and representation, encouraging viewers to slow down, look closely, and discover their own personal meaning within each work.

Over the years, Rick has explored a wide range of themes and series, each representing a different stage of his artistic journey. Whether inspired by memory, landscape, observation, or imagination, every collection reflects an ongoing willingness to experiment and embrace new creative possibilities. Beyond creating artwork, Rick has remained deeply involved in the artistic community. He has served as Co-Gallery Director of the Essex Art Association and worked as an Art Therapist at the Whiting Forensic Institute, experiences that strengthened his belief in the transformative power of creativity and visual expression.

His work has been recognized by critics and regional publications for its expressive color, layered compositions, emotional depth, and unique visual language. Reviewers have described his paintings as imaginative, immersive, and thought-provoking—works that continue to reveal new discoveries the longer they are experienced.
